Personality
Born to a household with too many mouths to feed, Ryker learned from a young age to take of and look out for herself. This self-reliance has turned her into a very headstrong and blunt individual. Never one to cut corners or mince words, she's the type who always gets straight to the point. Diligent to a fault, even when off the clock, Ryker is very much a by the numbers individual. With not much of a social life, she even spends her free time obsessing over cases or working out.
However, as Khora, she's far more open. More willing to laugh and make jokes, Ryker expresses all of the emotions and feelings she tends to bottle up and suppress freely in-game. Those who know her as Khora, know her as someone who's always willing to try anything and to do anything. Sociable and amiable to a fault, she's managed to make numerous friends -- her in-game life practically being the polar opposite to her existence outside of the game.
Such a duality is something that does seem to plague her -- with Ryker at times wondering if the way she acts as Khora is merely an act, or how she wishes she could express herself in real life.
Positive: Diligent, Amiable, Hardworking, Focused
Negative: Obsessive, Bleak, Reclusive, Overly Blunt
Background
The youngest child out of six siblings, Ryker's story isn't an uncommon one. Growing up in a low-income household on the wrong side of the train tracks, Ryker learned from a young age how to get by. The three oldest siblings always seemed to manage to rotate in and out of juvenile detention, while Ryker and the other two seemed to be on a fast track to follow them. From running into stores and swiping whatever they could to stealing from peoples homes and even their vehicles. From the outside looking in, it was a bleak existence that spoke of no future, or at the very least, very little hope for said future.
This was something that dawned on Ryker when one of her older siblings was killed in a burglary gone wrong and reality seemed to crash down upon her. She witnessed the distress her family went through, the mourning and the sorrow, and she witnessed when it simply... Ended. The pain was still there but life went on.
She focused more on school. Poured all of her attention and focus into it. Because she had to get out; it couldn't be just like that. There had to be more to life. She grew disdainful of her family for not being willing to change, for having 'given up' on leaving the dead end lives they lived. She hated the other kids around her for not caring about the miserable state that they lived in.
When she was 17, she graduated as the top of her class. At 18, she was accepted into a college with a scholarship. At 22, she joined the police academy. She'd make things better. Too many people she knew were content with the crime ridden neighborhoods and communities they lived in. But she could change it, she could do better -- draw more attention to the problems, help people feel more safe. Anything. She had to do something. If only it was that simple.
Once again, reality came crashing down upon her. The 'fix' to the problem wasn't so simple when the system itself was broken. So she focused on her career, grew cold and distant to her dream of making the world a better place but going through the motions of following the policies and procedures of the law.
At 27, she became a detective.
At 28, she began to research the mysterious 'Terrasphere' which rumors said were connected to the deaths of real people. It was a rabbit-hole that she dug further and further into it, almost to the point of obsession. It drew the attention and scrutiny of some of her peers, but eventually her investigation was formally signed off on and she was allowed to dig deeper and deeper until, eventually, she came across a QR code with an invitation.
Maybe she'd find answers to the deaths if she played the game? Or maybe, subconsciously, she just wanted an escape from the miserable reality of the world she lived in.
