Personality

Soft spoken, he is often mistaken for a kind person. When provoked or in the heat of conflict, he is focused and brutal, eschewing the formalities he clings to during social situations. He is observant, calculating, and methodical in his approach to others, because he understands their motivations... and how to motivate them.

Positive: Eccentric, Motivated, Calculating
Negative: Risk taker, Violent, Manipulative

Background

Nobody wants to live forever.

Theo knew when he was still young that the world was a boring place. The strife, the drama, the mindless daily grind- none of it meant anything, and it always amounted to the same thing. Who made the most money, or who was the happiest relative to the people around them. It was a contest of vanities, and he wanted no part of it. So, in a show of abject apathy and much to the despair of his parents, Theo dropped out of school the moment he was able.

His father responded predictably. "If you want to stay in my house, you'll follow my rules." So, he went immediately to work, and work was...

Boring.

He was making money, but money didn't bring him any happiness. There was one thing that Theo loved though, and that was her. He went to work daily and did everything without question or complaint to see her. Kayli was the only thing in this world or any other that shined to Theo, and her smile made everything worth it.

Kayli only smiled for him. That was what he thought. It was what he saw, until the day he met Brian. Brian was a year older and handsome, and he monopolized Kayli's attention. They talked on breaks and even went home the same way when the workday was done. Bitterness quickly took hold in his heart, and the one thing that brought beauty into his life started to make him ill.

He was tired. Of all of it.

And that was when he found Terrasphere, a world that sold him on the promise of ending his boredom forever.

Jin wields the cursed blade Eschaton. It is a weapon forged in the furnaces of daemons. Many such cursed blades exist, some forged by man, some by elves, some by other races- but they all share a single commonality. Something horrific happened during their creation, or soon thereafter, that tainted them. All blades are forged with the intent of taking life, but a blade with a curse goes further. It hungers for blood. It strives to bring death, even to the point of its corruption spreading to its bearer.

Eschaton is unique even among such vile blades. Imbued with the powers of annihilation by Greater Daemons who sought to unmake the world, it was forged as part of a pact with the Angels.

"For so long as it has a willing bearer, the horrors jailed within the blade shall never beset the world."

And so it was that in every generation, a swordsman was burdened with the task of holding back the cursed magics within the blade. The curse is three fold: a binding curse upon the blood of the bearer that infuses them with powerful, horrible command of the very fluid that gives them life, and a similar curse upon the soul, leaving them devoid of the joys of a "normal" life. This curse binds his fate to the blade, meaning that so long as it is unsundered, so too will he continue to live. The dark powers invested into the blade are what truly stand out to the eye. By drinking the vitality from his body, the sword maintains its durability. While it could perhaps be called parasitic in nature, this is countermanded by the Blood curse to some degree. While he appears sickly and pale to the eye, he is never frail in the proper sense... but he will never be "beautiful to look upon."

"With the Blood of Iron, he may remake his body. With a Spirit of Steel, he may stand undaunted against impossible odds. Darkness is his fate eternal, so that others may walk in the light."

Jin more than willingly took on the power, though while the act could be considered noble, by no means is the bearer required to be valiant or pure of heart. Indeed, as is the case with Jin, many bearers take on the power for its own sake.

Some die more quickly than others.

Slashing Weapons: His core mastery, and the heart of a swordsman. With this knowledge, he wields Eschaton in battle.

Hemomancy: The Blood Curse. Invective. Resourceful. Manipulative. With this, he can not only command his own body to be more sturdy, but he can turn the blood of others against them by infecting it with his own. Jin has shown surprising cunning in the deployment of this curse, going so far as to slow his own heart to fake death, and rebuild his completely ruined body at the molecular level, even after being torn apart by extreme heat.

Spirit Magic: The Curse of the Soul. Horrific. Depraved. Tyrannical. Wielding this curse, not only is his spirit bound to his blade, but Jin can bind other spirits to objects on a whim. He is able to grab hold of the spiritual bonds of others and twist them as if they were malleable by nature, and fortify or destroy them as he sees fit. Powerful Healing. Devastating Destructive potential.

Dark Magic: The Curse that Consumes. While it constantly draws upon Jin's vitality to maintain itself, the sword affords him the power to utilize unspeakable magic that could bring about the end times in the wrong hands. Fortunately, tapping into such power comes at immense cost, and requires him to release the bindings on one or more of the curses to achieve this. With the shackles lifted, the darkness is free to consume his body and spirit at even greater rates, meaning that to do so indiscriminately could quickly usher in his end.

Metamorph: The Hidden Face, an aspect of Jin not readily unveiled. His body has twisted and warped, reborn through Blood Magicks, but there may be another force at work...

Trait Description
Corrupted Memory (Lucid Return) Jin wishes he could simply erase his life as Theo from memory, but perhaps the most sadistic thing about the Curse of Spirit that he willfully took on is that he will never truly be free of that past. Despite his best efforts at immersion, he often has flashbacks to things that happened outside of Terrasphere... though for a blessing, perhaps, he sometimes sees things that happened inside the world as well. Not that many of those memories are good ones.

Echoes of the Damned (Shadowbound) His Curse of the Spirit also inexorably links him to those who were slain in the past, whether recent or from antiquity. Provided there is a substantial link to them in a given area, or they are bound by either unfulfilled purpose or in even rarer circumstances, Spirit Magic, to a place or an item, he not only sees them, but they are drawn to him. Some of them are more malicious than others, while some call out for help or for freedom, or simply find themselves alone and starved for companionship.
