Personality

Harlow is obsessed with improvement. His eyes are ceaseless, his expression unflinching, and he is constantly searching for strategic advantages. Because of this, his initial interactions with others typically present as apathetic or uninterested, but this is because he has many other things to also be observing. Even in interpersonal communications, he is intent upon improvement, albeit less proficiently.

Once he interacts with someone a sufficient amount, Harlow can become significantly more comfortable with frequently expressing his plans and accepting theirs. In his observance, he carefully constructs internal profiles of individuals and enemies he interacts with so that he may appropriately address them.

In his actions, he favors a direct and precise approach. Considering a conversation to be another fight, albeit usually with less stakes and physical pain, he is willing to employ manipulation and deceptions if it can present a strategic advantage. That being said, he has learned that building a bridge requires honesty, and one must heavily weigh the costs and benefits before installing a lie.

Additionally, as an aspect of his Magia racial choice, he has taken up a vocal habit of communicating with an integration of various radio-communication lingo, such as roger that, affirmative, radio check, and usually ending statements with -over, or ending conversations with -out.

Despite his overly-analytical perception and strict preferences towards practical and strategic actions, he is dedicated to protecting others and felling dangers above all else, and is always looking for the next way to test his abilities.

Positive: Hardworking, Stoic, Practical
Negative: Calculating, Obsessive, Mannered

Background

In his youth, Emerson was considered an intellectual failure. He wasn't naturally drawn to any particular subjects. He found little rewarding stimulation in the practice of hypothetical problems. While he lacked raw intelligence, there was a sharpness to the boy's intellect.

One morning when he didn't come home from school as scheduled, his parents became worried. Thankfully, it seemed their child had wandered into a nearby dojo on the way home from school, and it wasn't long until they found him there. Seated among the others as though he were meant to be there, Emerson integrated seamlessly and instantly into the community of the dojo and the culture of training.

Once he acquired a few friends, it seemed the previously uninterested, uninvolved boy took up his other studies with more attentiveness as well, though his primary focus remained upon his physical training at the dojo. As he grew older, he remained loyal to the dojo, and while most lessons came easy, one would come devastatingly difficult.

As a child, he was always punching up. Because of this, restraint wasn't a necessary consideration. As time passed, less experienced people joined the dojo. Emerson wouldn't learn restraint until it was too late, injuring a fellow student in a public sparring match. While the student admitted no harsh feelings, this warranted some level of scorn and disappointment from the highest ranked students of the dojo, and especially the Sensei at the head of it all, who had witnessed the entire display.

Cursing himself, Emerson became significantly more withdrawn from the dojo community, and his studies suffered similarly. This lull persisted until he got his hands on a particular QR code, and he would find himself faced with an incredible opportunity. A world which needed no restraint, and where he could test the limits of his training against potentially insurmountable, endless, and artificial opposition.

He wouldn't make the same mistake he did at the dojo. This time, only the right people would get hurt.

Harlow has a very defensive, reactive playstyle. He uses his Hyper Sense to carefully decide the safest course of action, and focuses on maintaining ground, rather than taking it. In an encounter, his Slashing Weapon mastery is primarily employed in deflecting attacks with his Unassuming Katana. Harlow will almost always take offensive actions less times than his opponents. Utilizing his mastery of Magitech, Harlow is also prepared for emergency medical aid via a detachable healing drone that exists beneath his cloak on his upper back. Unless specifically countered, Harlow is a reliable pick for most missions.
