Personality

Frey can be an exceedingly whimsical man at his core, shifting in his interests from one to the other without a warning thrown in his companions' ways. He latches with ease onto those that ignite the spark of interest in his eyes, being just as quick to toss the matter aside if the particular venture proves not to be "entertaining" enough, mannerisms changing in accordance from a distinctive warmth and amicable behavior towards outright dismissal. He seeks the rush of the bright and unknown, chasing the high of adrenaline as actively as he tries to avoid its consequences.

Rarely enough does he allow himself to be hindered by unnecessary negativity, donning a practiced smile Ava would recognize all too well. He would rather delight himself (and others) through overt displays of showmanship, adding a certain flair to his actions or reciting lines from old video games at the appropriate times, all for the sake of amusement.

Ava, on the other hand, remains a friendly face to all who would meet her. Whether it is solely as a part of her job or not remains mostly unknown by the public, but none ever think to dig too deep into the one making their drinks, and it is just how she prefers it. She is a hard worker out of necessity, without time to seek the little pleasures of thrill-seeking and other adventures when there is yet another unpaid bill hanging over her head. Practiced smiles and laughter come easily from her, careful to keep up the façade even in adversity to ensure her paycheck does not suffer at the end of the day.

Positive: Venturesome, Flamboyant, Outspoken
Negative: Whimsical, Self-Indulgent, Theatrical

Background

There is a weariness to her bones that does not quite go away.

She watches people through the rim of a glass, sometimes through the colours of their drink of choice. Watches them come and go from the establishment, listens in to the conversations for the slightest signal of one of the patrons being uncomfortable. Save for the occasional asshole out of turn, hardly ever does something remarkable happen.

At the end of her shift she returns home and allows herself an hour, perhaps two if she feels particularly spicy that day, of revisiting video games in a long-outdated console from the early 2010s. When the time is up, she changes again, and gives her mother a call to ensure that she is still very much alive and breathing, before she goes on to another job. Fixing something for a friend, picking up a neighbor's groceries, or walking their dog. Whatever she can to rack up some extra income.

It is a tiresome existence, but it covers her needs.

So it continues until one of her regulars brings up VR and the newest remakes of games already in Ava's possession, practically beaming at the opportunity to talk to anyone about the experience. She had never thought of acquiring a headset as a necessity, not with her limited budget, but the conversation leaves her with a droplet of curiosity.

A droplet of curiosity that has her browsing through some trade marketplace on her phone late at night. A droplet of curiosity that has her listing up her only method of mundane entertainment on the website, requesting working VR gear in exchange, even if it is in need of fixing. A droplet of curiosity that leads her to setting up a meeting with a potential buyer.

With a sigh, she gives up the console and the games collection her older brother had helped her build to some enthusiast she met on the internet, receiving a banged-up headset in return. By the time she tries to reconsider the deal, the stranger is gone from her sight, and the item sits ominously in her hands.

Time passes as she tinkers with it some, testing out what free games it had come with, linking her information to the equipment with some difficulty at the new (old?) technology. Though she could definitely see the appeal her regular had mentioned, nostalgia for her old games keeps nagging at her subconscious over time until she has half a mind to contact the original owner and ask for the exchange to be reversed.

Just in time for a notification to pop up on her email at the periphery of her vision.
