Personality
Jade is generally a serious young man with good attention to detail. He is diligent and attempts to be a steadfast and encouraging presence for the people in his life, and his students. He places a lot of stock in setting a good example for others. At times, he can be stubborn when it comes to what he assumes is best for others, but he truly does mean well.
Eve is mostly the same, but a bit less restrained. Seeing as how Eve is just a persona constructed for the game, he feels more free to express the slightly lazier sides to his personality, and doesn't feel the need to be as uptight all the time.

Background
Jade and his younger sister had always been close. They had a shared love for fantasy novels, beginning with an obscure novel from the '60s. As Jade had made his way through high school, he and his sister diverged a little: he developed an interest in mathematics, while she took to the arts. There wouldn't be a day that passed without her sketching characters and scenes from the novel in the margins of her homework, a fact that caused Jade and their parents no small amount of exasperation. Still, everything seemed to be going well as Jade graduated high school and went abroad for university.
That is, until Jade received horrible news, just a few months off from his graduation. His sister had been found dead in her room, apparently from playing the notorious VRMMO Terrasphere. Everything changed for the Yang family after that, their once-idyllic home life thrown into complete turmoil as arguments and blame games became the norm. After Jade graduated, he opted to stay and work abroad, rarely seeing his parents anymore as the atmosphere grew too strained.
As the years passed, things seemed to be calming down. Jade was working on reconciling with his now divorced parents. He had a good job as a high school teacher. His life was going well. And then, he began to hear some rumors around his school, students whispering to each other at their lockers. They said that banned VR game from a few years ago was back, and there were even people online saying that they were able to meet up with old friends who had been stuck in the game all this time...
It's just investigating a rumor, he told himself, as he bought a VR set. If some of his students really were playing the game, then it would only be right to keep an eye out for them. And not that he put any stock into people saying that players who died in real life while playing were actually still alive in the game world. But, maybe, just maybe…
