Personality
Alven is a compassionate individual who is always looking out for others. He enjoys volunteering at his local soup kitchen, as well as his part time job as caregiver to an elder gentleman. When he's not working or in class, he likes to listen to music and hang out at the park. Alven has a small circle of friends that like to get together on the weekends to hit the arcade or watch movies. He secretly has a crush on one of his friends, but is too shy to let her know.
Alven is typically the quiet one of the group, but has a slightly "louder" online presence. A member of a small group that like to mostly hang out in vocal chat rooms and play online games, he is goofy and talkative--a rather stark contrast to his offline persona. He almost intentionally makes himself the center of attention, feeling much more comfortable and open when no one can see him directly.
Alven learned how to cook and perform basic medical treatments at a young age, helping his parents care for his younger sister while they worked. It was the fact that he is several years older than her that he eventually thought of her more as a daughter than a sister. This led him to be protective of her, even a little overbearing. He would do anything to protect her, even to the point of picking fights with anyone who upset her.
Positive: Compassionate, protective, adventurous
Negative: Impulsive, reckless, overbearing
Background
Born in a small town in Washington, Alven Tremaine is the son of a mother and father who are almost always working, but still try to make time for their children. Growing up, Alven lead a pretty typical childhood. He never excelled much as a student, graduating high school somewhere in the middle of his class in terms of grades.
When he was 8, his sister was born, and she became the center of his world. With his parents having to be away from home so much, he took on the brunt of her care, learning to cook and perform simple medical tasks. He spent most of his time with her until she started school as well. When he was 13, Alven got into the video games and the internet. He was able to make a few friends at school and even more online.
When the time came to finally leave home for college, he found it very hard to leave his sister. By this time, his parents had made enough money for the three remaining members of their household to live comfortably while having a much bigger presence in his sister's life. This eased some of Alven's worries, but he still writes home once a week.
Alven decided to pursue medicine in college, taking a focus in emergency medicine. His time in college has gone well, and his focus on his courses has taken the limelight from his social life. When he decided to look into VR as another source of learning, he found out about an online game called Terrasphere. This VRMMMORPG appeared to be making the rounds on the internet, mostly as rumors, since it seemed to have been banned by some sort of VR safety entity that claimed it was unsafe. Being a gamer in the past, Alven was intrigued, but couldn't find much more than scattered rumors.
Eventually, Alven gave up and decided to focus his attention on his initial purposes for purchasing a VR adapter. He let a few of his classmates know, a few of them also having done the same. The small group of students would meet in virtual study halls or even virtual hospital rooms to perform mock examinations and other treatments. Eventually, Alven found himself falling for one of his classmates, the two of them having spent a couple of study sessions alone when the other members of their group couldn't make it.
One day, she told him about a game she had received from a friend that worked with their VR adapters. He was shocked to find out it was Terrasphere, the game he had tried to track down almost a year ago. He didn't know how she had managed to get a copy, and he was more than a little jealous. It wasn't long before he received an email from an unknown sender--inside of which was a QR code and a short welcome message.
Terrasphere had found its way to him at last.
